What do SEO, AEO and GEO mean for a dental practice?
SEO gets your practice into Google's result list when someone searches for «Zahnarzt Zürich» or «implant cost Zurich». AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) gets a specific patient question answered directly from your page, for instance in Google AI Overviews. GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) gets ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode to name your practice in their recommendation. The basis is the same for all three: a website that can be read and states its arguments in full sentences. That is why we build all three as one project.
Can I register my practice with ChatGPT or buy a recommendation?
No. There is no sign-up, no form and no paid slot in an AI answer. Offers that sell a «ChatGPT listing» sell something that does not exist. When asked about dentists, the assistants search the web live, read the websites they find and name the practices whose pages contain the fitting arguments. The route is open to every practice and costs work on your own website, not media budget.
How quickly will ChatGPT or Gemini name my practice?
Faster than in most industries. Because every second mention of a Zurich dentist comes from live reading of the practice website, new content takes effect as soon as Google and Bing have indexed it, usually within weeks. The models' memory, which accounts for 57 percent of mentions for wealth managers, plays a smaller role for dentists at 29 percent. We measure monthly and show you the first mention, not just the first ranking jump.
We have over 100 Google reviews and 5.0 stars. Isn't that enough?
For the entry ticket yes, for the recommendation no. In our study, named and unnamed Zurich practices both have a median of 5.0 stars and well over 80 reviews. Across all industries the share of named companies rises steeply up to about 30 reviews and barely afterwards. Collecting another 50 reviews does little for AI recommendations. The difference lies in linking domains, ranking keywords, the substance of the homepage and structured data.
What is a dental practice in Switzerland actually allowed to advertise?
The SSO code of conduct is decisive: factual, truthful information is allowed, intrusive or misleading advertising is not. Everything we build is information: treatments, opening hours, emergency service, location, team, equipment, languages and answers to patient questions. We leave out superlatives and comparisons with other practices, not least because the assistants do not quote them. For wording in the grey zone we align with you and, if you wish, with your professional association.
Why Hierarchy and not a large SEO agency?
Because we have the data and do the work ourselves. We are the only agency in Switzerland that bases its recommendations on its own study of AI recommendations, with a dedicated chapter on dentists. We know which features the assistants quote about Zurich practices and which they ignore. And we write, structure and publish the changes ourselves instead of sending a list to your webmaster. Four people in Zurich, one contact person, entry from CHF 600 per month, where established agencies start at CHF 2,400 and AI visibility is usually not included.
Does this work for practices outside Zurich too?
Yes. The study is computed for Zurich; the mechanics are the same everywhere: the assistants read practice websites and Business Profiles and name what they find there. For practices in Winterthur, Zug, Basel, Bern or Lucerne we first measure with the local questions who gets named today and build the content around the respective town, district and transport links. With less competition it usually goes faster than in the city of Zurich.
Do you also work with orthodontists, dental hygiene practices and group practices?
Yes. Orthodontics, oral surgery, children's dentistry and dental hygiene have their own patient questions and search terms, so we adapt the prompt set and page structure. Group practices and dental centres with several locations get one page per location, because the assistants sort by district and neighbourhood, and a quote after the intro call.
